Wondering how long it takes to insulate your home? While every project is a little different, most installations can be completed in a single day. Let’s break down what affects the timeline and what you can expect from our crew at Airlock Insulation.
The Short Answer
Most residential insulation jobs—including attics, walls, or crawl spaces—take 1 day or less. Larger or more complex projects may require 2 to 3 days. But for the average home in Northeast Ohio, we’re in and out in about 6 to 8 hours.
What Impacts the Timeframe?
1. Size of the Home or Area
- A 1,500 sq ft attic can often be completed in a single morning.
- Larger homes or full-house retrofits may require additional time.
2. Type of Insulation Being Installed
| Insulation Type | Time Required (Avg) |
| Blown-In Attic | 4–6 hours |
| Wall Spray (Wet-Spray Cellulose) | 1–2 days (due to prep) |
| Crawl Space/Basement | 4–8 hours |
| Insulation Removal | Add 2–6 hours extra |
Blown-in cellulose (our specialty) is typically fast to install but still requires precision, especially in irregular attics or tricky retrofit jobs.
3. Existing Conditions
- If we’re removing old or rodent-damaged insulation, we’ll need to vacuum that out first.
- Wet or moldy insulation adds time (and safety steps).
4. Access and Home Layout
- Homes with tight crawl spaces or minimal attic access might take longer.
- Multi-story homes or homes with unusual architecture often require extra set-up time.
5. Air Sealing Add-ons
- Our signature “Airlock Air Seal” process can add 1–3 hours, depending on how leaky the home is.
What Our Day Onsite Looks Like
Morning Arrival & Setup
We typically arrive between 8:00 and 9:00 a.m., depending on your schedule. We’ll walk the jobsite with you, review the scope, and protect your home with drop cloths and other safety materials.
Midday Progress
Most of the crew will be actively blowing in insulation, sealing air leaks, or running an energy audit if you booked one. We work efficiently but safely—rushing never leads to good results.
Afternoon Wrap-Up
We clean up thoroughly—your attic will be neater than when we arrived. Before we leave, we’ll do a walkthrough and answer any last questions.
Should You Be Home?
You’re welcome to be home, but you don’t have to be. Many customers head to work or run errands while we’re at it. We’ll coordinate everything ahead of time.
Real Homeowner Experience
“Joe and his crew were in and out in one day. My attic was a disaster before—they took out the nasty old fiberglass, sealed everything, and blew in new cellulose. I noticed the difference that same night.” — Joseph B., Chardon, OH
How to Prepare for Your Installation
- Clear attic or basement access points.
- Remove valuables or fragile items nearby.
- Make pets and kids aware (or arrange for them to be out of the space).
A Word About Quality
We don’t just race through the job. What matters is the result: a safer, quieter, better-insulated home. That’s why we follow a checklist and test everything before wrapping up.
